About Melinda

Melinda Thompson is a biomedical artist with a passion for creating clear and engaging visuals through illustration, 3D modeling, and animation. Her work includes patient education, academic publication, and medical legal visualization.

Originally from Salisbury, NC, Melinda earned her B.S. degree in Biomedical Sciences and Music at Furman University in Greenville, SC.

As a Biomedical Visualization M.S. candidate at the University of Illinois Chicago, Melinda has blended her unique interests in art, science, and music to create pieces that both inform and inspire. Her project research on hearing-motion synesthesia helped add knowledge to an under-studied condition, utilizing animation to represent the experiences of individuals with this condition.

From a young age, Melinda has always loved creating art and when she first learned about the field of medical illustration, she realized it was a perfect combination of here interests! When she’s not creating medical artwork, she is playing flute and piano, painting landscapes and animals, or taking care of her houseplants.
