Medical Legal Illustration
Medical Illustration is important in the courtroom for many reasons including communicating scientific information for a lay audience, highlighting injury or anatomical differences, or simply representing potentially disturbing images in a more digestible way. Legal illustrations must be accurate, but still serve to help tell the defendant or plaintiff’s story.
SCFE Exhibit Design
These illustrated slides were created for a medical legal illustration course to accompany the plaintiff’s case in a “mock trial” presentation. The illustrations show the the progress of a slipped capital femoral epiphysis fracture (SCFE) that ultimately led to disability in a young girl. The illustrations were used to clearly communicate x-ray information to a lay audience and demonstrate why the doctor’s misread was easily avoidable. Additionally, the illustrations show the progression of symptoms as a result of that first missed diagnosis.
